Word Wall
We begin the school year by placing everyone’s name on the Word Wall. In October, we add two words a week that are frequently used words in the English language. We use these words in our Morning Message, Morning News sentences, and later in our Journal writing. Some are on seasonal posters, room signs, phonics sight words, calendar, pocket charts, and bulletin boards. Each day, the Leader of the day reads the Word Wall using pointer sticks. The rest of the class “echo” reads. The new words for each week are posted at the door and are passwords that the children say as they leave the room.
